The Living Memory Lab in Berkeley, CA
On November 11, 2017, the Yonsei Memory Project collaborated with Bay Area poet, Brian Komei Dempster, editor of "Collecting Nisei Stories," for a special intergenerational writing workshop and conversation. Questions we addressed, then mapped: What memory practices and rituals have served our community? When did you first learn about the history of Japanese American incarceration/internment? What is needed, in the Japanese American community, in order to carry forward the stories and legacies through the generations? Do you feel like there has been healing in our community and, if so, how can it continue? What Day of Remembrance rituals or practices would you like to see? How can we link our stories of struggle with current civil liberties struggles? Thank you, Jill Shiraki, for the photos below!
